Aizawl - Capital of Mizoram

Mizoram is one of the 28 states of India, situated on the country’s northeastern part of the country.  The state covers an area of square kilometers with 75,727,541 inhabitants. is one of the Seven  Sister States listed as in North Eastern India, sharing borders with the states of Tripura, Assam,  Manipur and with the neighboring countries of Bangladesh and Burma. Mizoram became the 23rd  state of India on 20 February 1987. Its capital is Aizawl. The primary official language of Mizoram  is Mizo. Other languages often spoken in the state include Hmar, Mara, Lai, Paite, Gangte, etc. The  literacy rate is 88.49%

Aizawl is the largest city as well as the capital of the state of Mizoram in India. The City is located north of the Tropic of Cancer in the northern part of Mizoram and is situated on a ridge 1132 metres (3715 ft) above sea level, with the Tlawng river valley to its west and the Tuirial river valley to its east. In the summer the temperature ranges from 20-30 degrees Celsius, and in the winter 11-21 degrees Celsius

 Aizawl is a beautiful place that offers plenty of tourist attractions to tourists and habitants alike. Besides its breathtaking beauty, Aizawl is the storehouse of all important Government offices, State Assembly House and Civil Secretariat. It also enhouses different communities of Mizo wherein they maintain Peaceful Coexistence as the main theme. How to reach Aizawl

By Air

Aizawl is connected to Kolkata, ( 1 hr 45 min ) and Imphal ( 30 min ). Indian Airlines ( Alliance Air ) flights Kolkata - Aizawl - Kolkata ( daily service ) and Kolkata - Aizawl - Imphal - Aizawl - Kolkata ( monday, wednesday, friday ), Guwahati - Aizawl (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) .

Nearest airport is Aizawl.

BY RAIL

Nearest railhead is Silchar which is in Assam ( 184 km away) From Guwahati, travel to Silchar by Barak Valley Express, Cachar Express or the Tripura Passenger. The journey takes about 19 hrs.

BY ROAD

NH - 54 connects Aizawl with the rest of the country through Silchar. Buses and taxis are available from Silchar to Aizawl ( 6-8 hrs ). Night services are also available. Aizawl is also accessible by road from Shillong and Guwahati.

Local Transport : Taxis are the chief mode of transport in the city and rates negotiable. Buses ply on route within the state.
